As news of the king’s death spreads across Iura, citizens prepare for the Coronation Tournament. Kallen Dagwood, heir to the throne, must wed the victor in order to ascend. Sorren Rourke, a baker with an absent mercenary father, is shocked to receive a summons for the tournament as a contestant after declining to participate. While the kingdom faces civil unrest, the contestants ready to compete for their lives and the chance to become the future king’s consort. Adrift in grief, Kallen finds himself enamored with one of the contestants. While trying to thwart the efforts of scheming lords, he begins having dreams of the gods who disappeared from their realm centuries before. Fighting her feelings as well as the other contestants, Sorren finds herself unable to keep away from Kallen, even though she knows that upon her victory, she will challenge the crown. Usurping the Dagwood line will inevitably lead her to duel to the death against the man she is falling for.
