At twenty years old, she’s living at home, working a dead-end job, and only has her stubborn Grandmother for company. Dove has no future, and in the small town of Bluefield, she doesn’t dare to dream of one. Until she saves a man from drowning—who happens to be anything but a man. Crane is a self-proclaimed future Guardian of the forest. To claim the title he’s owed, he must learn how to balance peace between the human and spirit realms. So, he strikes a bargain with Dove: teach him what it means to be human, in exchange for a wish. Only Dove isn’t a good teacher, and her pupil is less than receptive. Learning to work with each other requires compromise in the one subject they both lack—heart. However, Dove's stubborn attitude is inherited, for nothing will stop her chance of twisting fate. This includes transfigured cats, frat parties, and the nasty butterflies that boil in her stomach every time she looks at a particularly prickly spirit.
