The first man chuckled a little bit, relaxing his grip on the shotgun, dismissing me in an instant. “This is our kill, girl, and it is in your best interest to agree.” He finished that statement with a pointed look. “Where’s your daddy?” asked the fatter man, glancing around and taking a step closer to me. Shit, this was not going the way I had hoped. I debated the merits of walking away. I could find another deer, but the way the short man looked me up and down gave me the chills. I could practically sense his intentions. It was too late for me to walk away. Let me help, a gravelly voice cooed in my head. No. I had enough going on without It trying to contribute. “I don’t think her daddy is here, what do you think?” The shorter man continued, looking back at the tall one as they shared a slimy smile. He took another step, and just like that, Charles was between us, the hair on his back standing up as he growled. “I would suggest not coming any closer to me,” I stated, my attention catching on something dark as it slithered in the shadows of the tree before returning my eye line to the men. The fat man's watery blue eyes crinkled up at the edges as he grinned. “Oh, and why’s that sweetheart?” He asked, a mocking tone in his voice as he tilted his head in a predatory fashion. “Your little dog goin’ to hurt me?” he scoffed as his companion outright chuckled. Let me make them pay, It whispered in my head. No, I pushed back again, harder than the first time. It mumbled under its breath, but I felt it curl inward, a quiet observer once again. I released a breath I hadn’t known I was holding. Now, if I could just get these men to leave, they may get to keep their lives.

Act 1 is wrapping up for this story. I want to know if a reader understand the world, waht assumptions they are making based on characters, and how the development and is working. I have a problem with info dumping, and I am struggling to move past it. Any advice there.
