Nalangu doesn't know where he came from. He arrived in Lumbwakeju on a small raft, scraping along when the river was running low. Though he is raised in the valley, he does not feel connected to its heart, so he is satisfied with following in his father's footsteps and remaining on the outskirts as a farmer. Unsurprisingly, as a man not looking for responsibility, he finds himself in the middle of a power struggle that he doesn't understand. When power and responsibility are thrust upon him, he must grapple with the duality of his mystery and his longing to be one of the people. In a world full of gods and magic, one young man must find his way.
